Understanding what makes an artwork—or piece of glue and cut construction paper—more or less "artistic" is one of the least important pieces of an elementary school art room. Instead, what is relevant and educational about art is how it asks us to collaborate, self-reflect, practice patience, and build on our curiosities. Practicing the art of listening is central to building any work of art—it can teach us how to pay attention to what's working and learn from what's broken. Coincidentally, often the first step towards sparking your own interests and creating something exciting and new is turning to the person next to you.
